Principle 02

Human-centered

AI augments educators and supports students. It never replaces the relationships that make community college transformational.

What we do

  • Design every workflow with a clear human escalation path. No student question disappears into a black box.
  • Co-design tools with the people who will use them — students for student-facing tools, faculty for classroom tools, staff for workflow tools.
  • Train AI ambassadors at each member institution so support is local and continuous.
  • Measure quality by student and staff satisfaction — not just throughput or efficiency metrics.

What we avoid

  • Replacing advising or counseling roles with chatbots; AI triages and suggests, humans decide.
  • Mandating AI use without faculty agency or training time.
  • 'Set and forget' pilots without a feedback loop from the people using them.
