Our principles

Ethics & Equity

How CVHEC institutions evaluate, adopt, and steward AI — written by the taskforce, lived by our colleges.

Principle 03

Responsible use

Privacy, transparency, and accountability come first. If a tool can't meet them, it doesn't belong in our colleges — no matter how impressive the demo.

What we do

  • Verify FERPA alignment for any tool that touches student data, with documented Data Privacy Agreements on file.
  • Disclose AI use to students clearly — in syllabi, in advising interactions, and in any automated decisioning.
  • Document the model, vendor, and known limitations of each adopted tool in this hub.
  • Maintain an incident reporting path so harms can be surfaced and addressed.

What we avoid

  • Tools that train on student data without explicit, granular consent.
  • Opaque automated decisions about admissions, financial aid, or student standing.
  • Vendor lock-in without clear data export and deletion options.
